How We Make a Rug

Watch how a hand tufted rug is made in our Bhadohi workshop, from the cloth on the frame to packing.

Fixing the cloth on the frame. The base cloth is stretched and fixed tight on a frame.
Tracing the design. The design is traced and printed on the cloth.
Tufting. Wool yarn is punched through the cloth by hand with a tufting gun.
Pasting the backing cloth. A backing cloth is pasted on the back.
Clipping. The pile is clipped and trimmed.
Carving the edges. The edges and pattern lines are carved by hand for sharp detail.
Finishing and checks. Every rug is checked for size, colour and finish.
Rolling and packing. The rug is rolled and packed to ship.

Can I get a rug in my own design?
Yes. Send a photo, drawing or reference and the size you need on WhatsApp. We will tell you if it can be made and send a quote. See our custom rugs page.

Can you change the size or colours of a design I see here?
Yes. Any design on our website, and the designs on this page, can be made in your size and colours.

How long does a custom rug take?
Made-to-order and custom rugs take about 25–35 days. Ready-to-ship designs on our website arrive in about 12–15 days. Shipping is free across India.

What is the rug made of?
Our hand tufted rugs are made in New Zealand wool. We confirm the exact material for your design before you order.

Can I return a custom rug?
Custom orders cannot be returned or exchanged unless they arrive defective, so please check the size and colours with us before you order. See our Return & Refund Policy.
